Willing to Pay Apple Patent License to Nokia
Amid the financial pressures, Nokia can injections of new revenue. Apple, which have often disagree on the issue of patents ultimately willing to pay a license to Nokia.
The agreement was announced on Tuesday (14/06/2011). In an official statement received Kompas.com from Nokia, the two sides agreed to end all patent disputes and will withdraw all its claims in court.
Apple is not only willing to pay a specific value to Nokia in a one-time payment, but also pay ongoing royalties. However, the agreed value and the type of patent is not disclosed.
“We are very pleased, Apple is using Nokia’s licensors. This agreement indicates the leadership of the Nokia patent portfolio in the industry and made us focus on the next licensing opportunities in the market of mobile communications,” said Stephen Elop, president and CEO of Nokia, said in a statement.
Currently, Nokia including patent holder of technology’s most lots in the telecommunications industry with more than 10,000 patents. Over the past two decades, Nokia boosted spending about 43 billion dollars for research and technological development.
Nokia hopes the deal with Apple to give a positive impact on the financial Nokia. Last week, Nokia had a big pressure with a revised second-quarter earnings targets so that the value of its stock to drop to the lowest value in history.
